Jugów lies between the peaks of the Owl Mountains and the Wyrębińskie Hills. The village brings together mountain scenery, winter sports, trails through the countryside and striking evidence of its history. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can consider whether you want to focus your trip primarily on ski slopes, hikes around Kalenica or the village’s cultural heritage.

Mountain scenery and trails around Jugów

Several hiking trails to Mount Kalenica start in Jugów. From here, you can reach Kalenica on foot via Jugowska Pass or from the road to Pniaki. These are two named options for planning your hike; no specific details about route length or walking time are available. If you enjoy exploring on foot during your stay, the village provides a clear starting point for discovering the trails to the mountain.

Another natural attraction is the “Szkółka Leśna” educational trail in the Kalenica forest district in Jugów. There is also a pre-war outdoor swimming pool at the foot of the Owl Mountains, fed by a mountain spring and surrounded by forest. Jugów thus brings together a range of landscapes: mountain peaks, the wooded setting of the swimming pool and an educational trail in the forest district. This variety may make a holiday apartment in Jugów appealing if you like to divide your days between mountain nature and other local attractions.

Ski slopes with specific route details

Jugów Sport Park has five ski slopes, ranging from green to black in difficulty. The slopes have a combined length of 3,300 metres, and the black slope has FIS homologation. One specific route is also described for more precise planning: the slope on Rymarz is 600 metres long, with a vertical drop of 180 metres. When planning your winter trip, you can distinguish these figures for the individual slope from the information about the overall ski area.

Another winter sports landmark is the 590-metre-long drag lift near Zygmuntówka. It was built in the 1970s. These details also give winter sports in Jugów a historical dimension: they describe the lift and when it was built, while the five slopes and their difficulty levels are part of the offering at Jugów Sport Park.

Church, remembrance and local history

Built of stone, the Church of St Catherine in Jugów was constructed between 1718 and 1722. Its furnishings include Baroque side altars and a Baroque pulpit with a triptych depicting the life of St Catherine. Other features include an organ case, confessionals and sculptures. Beside the church stands a statue of St John of Nepomuk dating from 1796. Taken together, the construction period, furnishings and statue offer specific insights into the village’s historical and religious character.

Another chapter in the village’s history is commemorated by the memorial chapel for the miners in the cemetery. It remembers 151 miners who died on 9 July 1930 in the disaster at the “Wenceslaus” mine, caused by a carbon dioxide outburst. The manor house in Jugów was the centre of the Oberjugów estate and served successively as a residence for the Stillfried, Haugwitz and von Pfeil families. These sites and memorials complement Jugów’s nature and winter sports attractions with a glimpse of its history.

Zygmuntówka also has its own timeline: the mountain hut opened in December 1938. In 1956, the Jelenia Góra branch of PTTK took over the building and established a tourist mountain hut there. If you choose Jugów for its mountain scenery, you will also find historical points of interest beyond hiking and skiing.
