Mościsko brings together remarkable church art, traces of rural history and nature. The Church of St John the Baptist is considered one of the oldest churches in Lower Silesia. There is also a Neo-Gothic bridge, ponds and an educational farm offering seasonal activities. You can tailor your stay to your interests, whether culture, nature or hands-on experiences.

Church Art and Historical Traces

The chancel of the Church of St John the Baptist contains Gothic polychrome paintings dating from around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. The paintings depict Christ and animals as symbols of the four Evangelists. Their imagery offers a specific reason to experience the church not only as a historic building, but also through the motifs depicted there. The Neo-Gothic bridge in Mościsko, dating from the 19th century, represents a different era.

Other historical traces also form part of the village’s character. A 2017 village strategy lists two penitential crosses among Mościsko’s historic monuments. On Lelek Hill, it notes the remains of a gallows; steps and a wall on ul. Polna are identified as the remains of a castle. These features add traces from different periods of the village’s history to the picture formed by the church.

The same village strategy records rural traditions that have been revived and passed on to children: washing clothes, Pierzajki, pickling cabbage and the annual threshing at harvest time. These traditional activities tell of a way of life quite different from the stone and painted records of history.

Ponds and Nature in Mościsko

A village strategy from 2017 recorded five ponds: four private ponds and one village pond, which it said was cared for by the “Przystań Mościsko” association. For one pond, the 2017 village strategy noted the possible presence of European pond turtles, swans and several species of wild ducks. These historical notes about possible occurrences add to the cultural themes, but sightings during your stay are not guaranteed. The strategy describes a recreational area by the pond on ul. Kolejowa as having been created and maintained by an association.

Góra Lelek is among the areas on the outskirts of Mościsko which, together with Góra Winna and a disused quarry, are described as viewpoints and walking areas. So alongside church art and village history, the landscape is another theme to explore on your trip. If you are interested, you can include these places in your plans and check local conditions before visiting.

Seasonal Activities and Rural Cuisine

Ostoja Nad Młynówką is an educational farm in Mościsko, aimed mainly at children and young people. Seasonal hands-on activities include sowing seeds, planting seedlings, washing clothes in the river, making hay and digging in the field. As activities depend on the season, check in advance which dates are available during your stay.

Food-related activities are also part of the programme for participants: you can knead dough, bake flatbread on a cooking plate and sample bread made using the traditional method with natural sourdough. Together with the village’s traditional customs, these activities offer another way to experience Mościsko—not through historic buildings, but through practical activities and rural ways of life.

Find the Right Holiday Apartment for Your Interests

When looking for a holiday apartment in Mościsko, you can start by considering which themes you want to shape your stay. Church art and historical traces offer a different focus from nature watching or seasonal activities on the farm. If you want to include a specific farm activity in your plans, ask about suitable dates.
