The Wojsławice Arboretum
The arboretum covers more than 60 hectares and includes almost 10,000 varieties of trees, shrubs and perennials. It also has seven National Plant Collections. The grounds therefore offer not only a great diversity of plants, but also systematically organised collections that visitors can explore in detail. Industrial history at the Młyn Hilberta
The Młyn Hilberta houses a complete, functioning technological production line for making flour, groats and bran. Visitors can follow the entire production process across all the floors of the mill. This means that the focus is not just on one stage of the work, but on the complete sequence within the mill. In November 2016, the Foundation for the Protection of Silesian Industrial Heritage took over the Młyn Hilberta, converted it into a museum and opened it to visitors. Those interested in technology and industrial history will find a different focus here than among the plant collections at the arboretum.
Routes, landmarks and activities
In Dzierżoniów, two tourist routes explore different themes. The Dzierżonowski Trakt Smoka is a route to the city’s most interesting buildings. The Dzierżonowski Trakt Diory combines a tourist route with an educational trail, presenting the heritage of the former “Diora” radio technology works. Gola Dzierżoniowska Castle is another notable cultural destination: it is one of the oldest and largest Renaissance buildings in the surrounding area. These destinations appeal to travellers who want their excursions to focus on architectural history or the region’s industrial heritage.
For days spent outdoors and being active, the Owl Mountains offer opportunities for hiking, cycling, alpine skiing and cross-country skiing. Wielka Sowa is a 1,015-metre-high peak with a historic observation tower. Góra Parkowa is a separate destination, with three walking trails and a nature and education trail leading to its observation tower. Cyclists can explore ten signposted MTB routes in the Powiat dzierżoniowski, part of the Strefa MTB Sudety, with routes of varying difficulty. Bielawa’s town park also has a climbing course more than 200 metres long. Its varied obstacles include a zip line, a suspension bridge, a swing, a net and a climbing wall.
