Leźnica Wielka: Church and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Leźnica Wielka
Leźnica Wielka combines St. James the Apostle’s Church with a specific cycling theme: the western section of the Blue Cycling Route “W Centrum Polski”. Building history, sacred art, and a named cycling route offer different points of interest for planning a trip.

St. James’s Church: wooden construction and building history
St. James the Apostle’s Church is a wooden building on a masonry foundation and was built at the beginning of the 18th century. It was renovated and extended in 1882; a masonry porch at the front and a masonry sacristy were added at that time. This makes it possible to distinguish the original building from the additions of 1882 both chronologically and by their materials. The church is listed in the register of historic monuments. Its building history is therefore notable not only for the period when it was built, but also for the clearly dated later renovation, which included two specifically identified additions.
Baroque altars and their furnishings
The Baroque high altar is adorned with sculptures of St. Adalbert and St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, dating from the late 17th century. The figures are therefore dated earlier than the church’s construction at the beginning of the 18th century. The side altars are also Baroque, but differ in their furnishings: the left one contains an 18th-century Rococo crucifix and sculptures of the Virgin Mary and St. John the Apostle. The right side altar features an image of St. Anthony from the 18th century. The high and side altars can thus be compared by their position, the saints depicted, and their artistic styles. The furnishings include both sculptures and an image; the Rococo crucifix is an additional distinct feature of the left side altar.
The western section of the Blue Cycling Route
The western section of the Blue Cycling Route “W Centrum Polski” begins in Leźnica and runs through Krzepocin II, Mniszki, Janków, Zduny, Podłęże, Parski, Łyków, Rogów, Wola Świniecka, Głogowiec, Świnice Warckie, Gusin, Grodzisko, Podgórze, Zbylczyce, Leszno, Byszew, Grabów, Besiekiery, Ostrówek, Aleksandrówek, Stara Sobótka, Odechów, Zagróbki, Drzykozy, Sławoszew, and Mazew. It then continues through Kutno County. The sequence of places gives the section a clear route from its start in Leźnica to its continuation in Kutno County. The cycling route thus provides a route-focused theme alongside the church history, which centres on a single building and its furnishings.
Which focus suits your trip?
When looking for a holiday apartment in Leźnica Wielka, you can weigh these themes against each other: the church is about its construction, renovation, and altar furnishings; the cycling route is about its starting point in Leźnica and the sequence of named places. You can choose a location based on whether you would rather focus on cultural history or the cycling route during your stay.
