By the Lake and Among the Cliffs
The Skały Rożnowskie cliffs lie on the lakeshore and are made of Ciężkowice sandstone. The cliffs in Rożnów reach heights of up to 30 metres. A tourist description mentions several climbing routes and describes them as suitable both for climbing enthusiasts and beginners. This makes the area’s geological features and climbing two distinct ways to enjoy the outdoors during your stay.
A walk by the Rożnów Dam offers views of the steep, wooded banks and the lake. The top of the dam itself is closed to visitors. When planning, it is therefore important to distinguish between walking by the dam and walking along its crest.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
A blue long-distance hiking trail runs through Rożnów between Zagórze and Wiesiółka. It is part of an extensive route from the Radziejowa Range in the Sądecki Beskids, through the Pieniny, Gorce, Beskid Wyspowy and Rożnowskie Foothills, to Tarnów. For a longer hike, the full route to Tarnów is relevant; during your stay, you can also focus on the section between Zagórze and Wiesiółka. A listed cycling route also passes through Rożnów, between Majdan and Roztoka. While the hiking trail is described as part of a long-distance route, the cycling route is identified by this sequence of places. Check the latest conditions before setting out.
Military History and Church Architecture
Rożnów is home to one of Poland’s early fortresses, featuring early modern fortifications. The Upper Castle first belonged to the Rożen family, then to Zawisza Czarny, a knight of Władysław Jagiełło, and later to Hetman Jan Amor Tarnowski. The Stadnicki manor house is also one of the town’s attractions. These historic landmarks reveal Rożnów’s military architecture, earlier ownership and varied buildings.
The wooden Church of St Wojciech dates from the 17th century and was founded by Jan Wielopolski, Castellan of Wojnicz. Its single-nave body leads into a three-sided chancel. A roof turret sits on the roof in place of a tower. The materials, floor plan and roof design give the church its distinctive architectural character and offer a different perspective on the town’s history from its fortifications.
Another Perspective from the Water
A municipal description dated 18 August 2025 lists the “Jaskółka” excursion boat as operating on Lake Rożnowskie. It also lists a jetty with kayaks and pedal boats at the Rożnów bathing area.
