Koszuty can be explored through two distinct themes: the architecture and domestic life of Dwór w Koszutach and the southern section of the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route, which passes through the village. The manor house stands in a small landscape park. Its rooms feature reconstructions of various living spaces, while the cycling route places Koszuty on a route between Poznań and Środa Wielkopolska. This raises a practical question for planning your trip: are you mainly interested in the history of the house, or in the village’s connection to the cycling route?

Half-timbering and Baroque-era features

Dwór w Koszutach was probably built shortly after 1750 as a half-timbered structure made of larch wood and clay on an oak sill. Parts of the building are made of brick. The manor house thus brings together different building materials: wood and clay define the half-timbered structure, alongside sections of masonry. The oak sill forms the base of the half-timbered frame. The surviving room layout and some decorative façade elements mean that, despite later alterations, the manor house can be classified among Baroque-era monuments. This classification is based on specific features of the house, without overlooking the changes made to it later.

Six reconstructed rooms

The museum display comprises six reconstructed rooms: a dining room, guest room, drawing room, the lady of the house’s room, the master of the house’s room, and a children’s room. These names bring the different areas of the house to life—from the dining and guest rooms to the rooms of individual household members. The display mainly includes furniture, paintings and household objects dating from before the First World War. In the children’s room, the collection extends to 1939, an exception to this timeframe. This different date range gives the room a distinctive emphasis within the exhibition. For people travelling together, the sequence of reconstructed rooms also offers different ways to start a conversation about domestic life, everyday routines and the design of a historic house.

Manor house and landscape park

The small landscape park in which the manor house stands is also part of Koszuty’s character. The manor house and park complex was declared a Pomnik Historii (Historic Monument) by decree of the President of the Republic of Poland on 20 April 2018. The designation applies to the ensemble of the manor house and park. Together, they offer two ways to appreciate the site: through the architectural and museum details inside the house, and through the recognition of the complex as a whole.

Koszuty on the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route

Koszuty is also a named stop for a cycling trip: the southern section of the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route runs from Poznań towards Tulce, then continues through Koszuty to Środa Wielkopolska. This makes Koszuty part of a cycling connection that extends beyond the village. The route offers a different focus for a trip than the cultural history of the manor house. If both appeal to you, you can also plan your search for a holiday apartment in Koszuty around this travel idea.
