Księginki combines an erratic boulder designated as a natural monument with historical traces and a riding trail that runs through the village. The village’s history also stretches far back: Księginki is documented in records dating to 1210. Those interested in nature, history and routes will find several different points of interest here to consider when planning a trip.

Erratic boulders in and west of Księginki

The erratic boulder in Księginki has a circumference of 780 cm and is designated as a natural monument. A second erratic boulder, with a circumference of 610 cm, lies at the roadside on the Podrzekta–Gaj road, 2 km west of Księginki. The two stones therefore differ both in circumference and location: one is in Księginki, while the other is west of the village beside a road. These details provide specific points of reference for exploring the area’s natural features; the boulder in the village is explicitly designated as a natural monument.

Local history and historical traces

The documented history of Księginki goes back to 1210. At that time, Duke Władysław Odonic transferred the village to the Cistercian monastery of Przemęt. The year is linked to this transfer and marks a historical reference point for the village’s early history. The remains of a Protestant cemetery are also located on the southern edge of Księginki. They lie at the edge of a small pine wood, beside the field road to Małachowo.

Among those buried in the Protestant cemetery are former mayors of Dolsk, soldiers from the First and Second World Wars, and residents of Księginki and neighbouring villages. This place thus connects the history of the village with the lives of people from the municipality and nearby communities. Another historical trace is the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary (Kapliczka Matki Boskiej Różańcowej), located in the garden of property No. 71.

Riding trail and getting around

A riding trail runs from the Mościszki forester’s lodge through Księginki to Mszczyczyn and continues from there to the Bogusławki stud farm. The route makes Księginki part of a longer connection between these named places. When planning your trip, you can see that, in addition to local historical and natural features, a riding trail also passes through the village. The route from Mościszki to Bogusławki is 22 km long.

Księginki also has a junction with the county road that leads via Ostrowieczno to Nowieczka. Thus, both a road connection and the riding trail are described as distinct points of reference for the village. When choosing a holiday apartment for your stay, you can first consider whether you are most interested in Księginki for its natural monument, historical traces or riding trail.

A past harvest festival

On 4 September 2022, Księginki hosted the harvest festival of Śrem County and the municipality of Dolsk. The specific date places the event in 2022. It adds a more recent example of a festival held in Księginki to the village’s longer-standing historical connections.
