Monastery, Church and Palace
St Nicholas Church is the oldest historic building in the town. It is also one of the oldest and most valuable sacred buildings in Poznań County. The Cistercian monastery also tells a story of renovation and reconstruction: Jan Catenazzi designed the renovation, which may have incorporated 13th-century walls. After a partial fire on Good Friday in 1720, Pompeo Ferrari completed the reconstruction.
The von Treskow Palace offers another architectural trail to follow. Its design is probably attributed to the Berlin architects Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Franciszek Catel; more recent research suggests that David Gilly may have been responsible. This alternative attribution also makes the palace interesting to travellers curious about different interpretations of its architectural history.
Landscape Park and Library of Scents
The von Treskow Palace is surrounded by a landscape park with a pond, mature trees and deciduous trees protected as natural monuments. The park was laid out in the early 19th century to a design by Peter Joseph Lenné, the long-serving director of the gardens in Berlin. The site thus combines a historic building with a designed park landscape; the pond and old trees give a visit a different focus from the architectural history at the heart of the town.
A more recent cultural attraction is the Aromatorium – Biblioteka Zapachów, or Library of Scents. It opened on 24 February 2023 at the Special Education Centre for Blind Children in Owińska.
