History

Buk was first mentioned in documents in 1257; at that time, the town already had a church and the right to levy dues.

In 1289, Buk was granted Magdeburg town rights. Trade then increased, and the town received a defensive wall.

Buk also has a documented history of crafts and brewing: Crafts became increasingly important, and brewers have been recorded since 1519.

Buk is connected by the Opalenica–Poznań and Stęszew–Szamotuły roads and lies on the Berlin–Poznań railway line.
