Church architecture with contrasting features

The Church of St Nicholas stands in the centre of Łubowo, south of the road from Poznań to Gniezno. It is located at the intersection of the roads to Kostrzyn, Czerniejewo and Owieczki. Its timber log construction includes a post-supported tower. The Chapel of Our Lady of Consolation is also part of this church: it was added in 1720 and is made of larch wood. Local history, from the earliest record to the postal route

Łubowo has been documented since 1325 and was referred to as a town in the 15th and 16th centuries. An earlier chapter in the history of the area is linked to the Dryja family, also known as Sobiejuchy. In the 13th and 14th centuries, they probably lived in a fortified settlement in the meadows along the Mała Wełna. A fortified rampart remains from the settlement.

In the early 17th century, Łubowo became one of the stagecoach stations on the postal route from Poznań to Toruń. Together with the location of the Church of St Nicholas at the junction of the roads mentioned above, this historical role offers another perspective on Łubowo: the town is notable both for its buildings and for its place on an earlier postal route.
