Haltdalen
Accommodation in Haltdalen
Haltdalen combines insights into local history with a wide range of ways to spend time outdoors. Its churches and museums bring historical subjects to life; the Gaula is known for salmon fishing, while the Karolinerleden offers a multi-part hiking route. Roller skiing and motocross are other active pursuits. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore worth first considering which experiences you would like to make the focus of your stay.
Churches and local history
Haltdalen Church was completed in 1881 and has 300 seats. The new stave church of Haltdalen, completed in summer 2004, offers a different kind of church experience. It provides musical, cultural and spiritual experiences. Located between the main church and the old cemetery, it serves as a distinct landmark within the village. Anyone interested in different forms of church architecture and use will find two clearly distinct points of interest here.
Gammelgården also tells the story of Haltdalen’s past: the restored former vicarage welcomes visitors for refreshments and guided tours. Handicrafts are sold there in summer. A dedicated Armfeldt Museum focuses on the history of the Caroleans and their time in the village. The Lapwing Museum is right next door. It provides information about the largest railway sabotage operation during the Second World War. Gammelgården thus brings together several historical subjects, from the former vicarage and the Caroleans to wartime history.
Petran local history museum is in Heksemsgrenda, in the centre of Haltdalen. The history of the farm dates back to 1450. The museum holds an open day in summer. The old farm and Gammelgården thus offer different ways to explore history: here, the focus is on a farm with a long past; there, a former vicarage with guided tours, refreshments and its own museums.
Fishing, hiking and activities
Salmon fishing is available in the Gaula in Holtålen, from Dragåsen in Haltdalen to Eggafossen in Svølgja. If this is of interest, you can take the places mentioned and the river into account when planning your stay. The Karolinerleden offers a different way to experience the surrounding area on foot: it runs from Haltdalen to Aunegrenda and continues from there over the mountains to Tydal. The route therefore connects a section to Aunegrenda with an extension across the mountains; you can consider the two parts separately when choosing your hiking destination.
In summer, the floodlit trail at Haltdalen Stadium is suitable for roller skiing. Haltdalen motorsportsenter also has a motocross track that meets national standards. These activities appeal to different interests: roller skiing involves exercise on a floodlit trail, while motocross is a motorsport practiced on a track. If you are considering Haltdalen as a holiday destination, these specific activities can help you decide whether culture, hiking, fishing or sports should shape your trip.
Choosing Haltdalen as a holiday destination
You can choose a holiday apartment to suit the focus you have in mind, without combining the different experiences into a single excursion itinerary. For an interest in history, the churches and museums offer topics to explore; for active days, options include the Karolinerleden, salmon fishing, roller skiing and motocross. You can consider in advance which of these options matters most for your trip and which holiday destination is the right fit. For further guidance, see Ålen and Renbygda.
