At the outer end of the Sognefjord, fjord, coast, open sea and surrounding mountains meet in Lavik. The local landscape also includes beaches in a well-maintained cultural heritage park. The scenery and history offer different points of interest for a stay. If you are looking for a place for your holiday apartment where both can be part of your travel plans, Lavik is worth exploring further.

Landscape and outdoor activities

The mountains around Lavik are lower and gentler than further inland along the Sognefjord. This makes the views wider and more open. This landscape can play a role in choosing a holiday destination: if you appreciate expansive views, Lavik’s open fjord setting is a distinctive feature. The beaches in the well-maintained cultural heritage park offer a different focus.

Gamlevegen is another specific point of interest to consider when planning your trip. Today, it is used as a hiking trail for exercise and recreation. If you enjoy hiking, you can include it in the kind of stay you are looking for; if you are more interested in beaches and scenery, the beaches offer a different starting point for choosing a destination. This allows you to take different interests into account without combining them into a single route.

Church, vicarage and local history

Lavik has been inhabited since before the Viking Age. A notable historic building in the village is Lavik Church: an octagonal wooden church with listed status for its heritage significance. Provost Thomas Erichsen consecrated it on 10 December 1865; it has 380 seats. The approximately 200-year-old gravestone in the church steps is also notable. Together, the building’s design, the year of its consecration and the gravestone offer different insights into the history of the place.

Bispestova is part of Lavik Vicarage, which has been formally protected since 1992. The restored interior of Bispestova is arranged to represent the residence of a public official in the early 19th century. There is a dedicated exhibition room on the second floor. The recreated living quarters and the exhibition room offer different points of interest within this historic site.

The monument to Eidsvoll representative Ole Elias Holck stands at the old Alvera estate. It was erected in 1914 to mark the centenary of the Norwegian Constitution. A 10-metre-long avenue leads to the monument at Alvera estate. The year and occasion of its erection link the remembrance of Holck to a significant date in the history of the Norwegian Constitution.
