Its history is about more than a succession of buildings: Solhålå belonged to three farms on the Vea farm and was used communally for work and as a meeting place.

The two earliest naust have stone walls and pitched roofs; their exact year of construction is unknown. This building style dates back to the Viking Age. The roof timber structures of the two oldest naust are a separate feature and date from the second half of the 19th century. In this way, a long building tradition exists alongside a more precisely datable building element, without establishing an exact construction year for the naust.

In the 1870s, two sjøhus were added to Solhålå. Their post-and-beam construction, with grinders, stavlei and rafters, has roots in prehistoric times. At the same time, the modernisation of fishing created a need for more storage space for equipment. The complex thus tells the story both of traditional building methods and of how the demands of fishing changed.

Veavågen is listed as a cultural landscape of regional interest. This cultural landscape represents coastal culture, fishing, trade and seafaring, and is considered to have high cultural and historical value for research and interpretation.
