Coastal Scenery and Circular Hike

Kvalavåg combines attractive coastal scenery with forests, hills and rocky heights. Beaches and coves sit alongside these other landscape features, giving the area a character that stretches from the water to striking high ground. The Route to Rambaskårsfjellet

To get there, turn off the airport road at the signposted Kvalavåg junction and drive 4.3 kilometres towards Kalstø. There is a gravel car park on the right-hand side of the road. From there, follow the hiking signs to Rambaskår. Information about the access road and car park may change as road or parking conditions change; check before setting out.

The route follows a wide gravel path built through the volunteer work of the Kvalavåg velforening. At the first summit, the path passes the remains of old stone walls. Along the route, you can see Utsira and its wind turbines, as well as other well-known landmarks. The hike thus combines nature and views with a visible trace of earlier construction in the landscape.

Festivals and Leisure in Kvalavåg

Local festivals also offer specific opportunities to consider when planning your trip. The local welfare association organises autumn and spring walks every year. They end at the community hall with a good dinner and dessert. Kvalavåg’s 17 May celebration includes its own parade with a brass band and majorettes. The Sankthans celebration features a bonfire, a performance, a talent competition and kiosk sales. If you have a particular event in mind, check the current dates before travelling.

Kvalavåg also has a BMX track and a volleyball court. Together with the hiking trails, these places offer more options for a stay that is not focused solely on the circular hike.
