Trysil – River Landscape, Culture and Activities
Accommodation in Trysil
Trysil has many different sides: the Trysilelva shapes the landscape, cultural offerings in the centre tell the story of the place, and outdoor activities take centre stage in Trysil-Knuten. You can tailor your stay to your interests – with a cultural walk, a visit to the open-air museum or time at an activity area.
Dagsturhytta and trails in Grimsåsen
Dagsturhytta is in Grimsåsen, east of Innbygda, the centre of Trysil. From the car park by the floodlit ski trail on Grindbekkvegen, a 500-metre universally designed path leads to the cabin; it is intended for everyone. Dagsturhytta is also a starting point for several hikes on a larger network of trails. Some of the terrain is steeper, so bear this in mind when choosing a hike. There is also a shelter nearby that can be used as a rest stop and barbecue area.
To get there from the centre, follow Bergevegen, Korsbergsvegen and Grindbekkvegen. After about 60 metres on Grindbekkvegen, you will reach the car park. The approximate distance refers to this part of the drive. If you are interested in hiking, you can plan Dagsturhytta as a destination in its own right; when looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether hiking trails or cultural attractions should be the focus of your stay.
Trysil’s history at the open-air museum and in the centre
Trysil Bygdetun is an open-air museum in the centre of Trysil and is considered Norway’s oldest open-air museum. Its 21 buildings show how people in Trysil lived in the 18th and 19th centuries. A complete traditional mountain pasture farm is located on the slope behind Bygdetun. The museum also offers a sweeping view of Trysilfjellet. A visit therefore brings together historic buildings, the traditional mountain pasture farm and a view of the mountain – three distinct aspects to discover, each in its own right.
Outside the summer season, Trysil Bygdetun offers guided tours for groups throughout the snow-free part of the year. These must be booked in advance and confirmed by the venue. In the centre, the Trysil historie og museumslag association also regularly holds history talks on a range of topics at Gammelskula, led by local historians.
You can take the cultural walk in Innbygda on your own or with a guide. One possible starting point is Gammelbrua: there you will encounter Trysil-Knut with old skiing equipment from Trysil, including a pair of long skis and an Andor. If you are interested in local history, you can choose to take the walk on your own or arrange a guided tour. Near Bjønnsstugua, the forest worker’s wife memorial commemorates the role of women in Trysil’s forestry history.
Riverside, swimming and activities
Bjønnsstugua stands on the banks of the Trysilelva in the centre of Trysil and is about two hundred years old. The summer café sells waffles, ice cream, coffee, juice and soft drinks. There is a place to swim nearby. From Flomvollen along the Trysilelva, you can see the river, forest and mountain that together shape Trysil’s landscape.
Trysil-Knuten is an activity area in the centre. It includes a barbecue and shelter area, hammock stands, sun-warmed rocks, a stone staircase and a swimming spot. The activity park also has an obstacle course with ten different stations. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider your daily routine and whether you would like your stay to focus more on activities or culture.
Food and local information
Parken Bistro & Bar offers beer tastings with matching small dishes. Brewery tours covering beer brewing and beer knowledge are also available there by advance booking. For tourist information, visit the tourist information office in the Trysil library in the centre. Further information points are located at the SkiStar welcome centres, with the SkiStar Guides and at the Radisson Blu at Trysil Turistsenter.
