Over the centuries, Domburg developed from a place of religion and trade into an artists’ village and finally into a seaside resort. When choosing a holiday apartment in Domburg, you can combine the town’s history with artistic motifs, dunes and sea, as well as active pursuits.

Art, History and Special Motifs

The present-day Badpaviljoen building was constructed in 1888–1889 on the site of an earlier bathing pavilion dating from 1837. The Johanneskerk is also one of the motifs closely associated with Domburg’s art history: Piet Mondrian drew and painted it several times. The colourful Mondriaanbank, in turn, refers to Piet Mondrian’s iconic style.

The Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum Domburg focuses on classical modern art, particularly the theme of artists’ colonies in Europe. Continuously changing exhibitions are on display there, and the garden contains sculptures. During your stay, the museum thus offers a direct introduction to Domburg’s artistic side, without limiting you to historic buildings in the townscape.

Molen Weltevreden is a stone Dutch smock windmill dating from 1817. It was a source of inspiration for numerous painters who worked in Domburg, including Toorop and Mondrian. The mill can be visited when its sails are turning. This brings together architectural history, a landscape motif and a clearly defined condition for visiting.

Dunes, Sea and Paths through Nature

The natural surroundings in and around Domburg range from high dune peaks to the open sea. Routes in and around Domburg connect the sea, dunes and nature reserves, offering various opportunities for walks and hikes. Water and Golf as Active Holiday Ideas

This makes it possible to include various water sports interests in your daily plans. Those who prefer golf will find the Domburgsche, the only genuine links course in the Netherlands.

Cycling through the Polders

The tour also offers opportunities to buy food at various farm shops. The route therefore combines exercise with regional impressions and a specific opportunity to purchase food along the way.
