Beach and Dunes

In the vicinity of Noordwijk aan Zee lies the tranquil Noordvoort beach reserve. The reserve is located between Zandvoort and Noordwijk and complements the two beach areas along the Northern and Southern Boulevards with another coastal location. Its setting is thus defined by its connection between the two places mentioned and its character as a tranquil beach reserve.

Duindamseslag can only be reached via a walking and cycling path. This path leads through the dunes, making access to this section of beach a defined route for pedestrians and cyclists. The present-day Vuurtoren Noordwijk stands on Koningin Wilhelmina Boulevard. The distinctive white lighthouse dates from 1923 and is therefore part of the visible history of the boulevard.

Each floor of the Vuurtoren Noordwijk has its own theme. The topics covered include the history of the lighthouse and its former important connection with the lifeboat association. The exhibition distributes these two historical references across the individual floors of the tower, thereby connecting the building with the history of the area.

The Atlantikwall Museum Noordwijk consists of a series of bunkers from the Second World War. A visit to the exhibition and tunnel system gives an impression of life in the bunkers during the Second World War.

Noordwijk was one of the Dutch beaches from which Engelandvaarders set off directly across the North Sea. The Engelandvaarders Museum tells the story of young men and women who fled the occupied Netherlands during the Second World War.
