Noordwijk aan Zee – Beaches and Holiday Apartments
Noordwijk aan Zee has beaches along the Northern and Southern Boulevards. Its rich past as a seaside resort encompasses spa treatments, trade and fishing, with all three areas playing important roles. The town thus combines its coastal setting with a history that includes health-related stays as well as economic activities and traditional fishing.

Beach and Dunes
In the vicinity of Noordwijk aan Zee lies the tranquil Noordvoort beach reserve. The reserve is located between Zandvoort and Noordwijk and complements the two beach areas along the Northern and Southern Boulevards with another coastal location. Its setting is thus defined by its connection between the two places mentioned and its character as a tranquil beach reserve.
Duindamseslag can only be reached via a walking and cycling path. This path leads through the dunes, making access to this section of beach a defined route for pedestrians and cyclists. The dune path is therefore an integral part of the described access to Duindamseslag and is also the defining spatial element of this approach.
A thalassotherapy relaxation platform is located at beach access point 10 in Noordwijk aan Zee. You can also take part in a yoga class on Noordwijk beach.
North of beach access point 21, near Beach Break, there is a learning facility for two activities: you can learn to surf or kitesurf there.
Lighthouse and Seaside Resort History
The present-day Vuurtoren Noordwijk stands on Koningin Wilhelmina Boulevard. The distinctive white lighthouse dates from 1923 and is therefore part of the visible history of the boulevard.
Each floor of the Vuurtoren Noordwijk has its own theme. The topics covered include the history of the lighthouse and its former important connection with the lifeboat association. The exhibition distributes these two historical references across the individual floors of the tower, thereby connecting the building with the history of the area.
The tower has six floors and 108 steps. These details are among the specific features of the Vuurtoren Noordwijk and make its vertical structure immediately clear. Together with its construction year of 1923 and white exterior, they shape the traditional description of the present-day lighthouse.
War and Remembrance History
Batterij Noordwijk is located at Verlengde Bosweg 1, 250 metres from Bosweg. The site is situated along the cycle path in the dunes.
Batterij Noordwijk consists of a fire-control bunker, gun bunkers, ammunition bunkers and living bunkers. A tunnel system connects these various bunkers. The site therefore includes both structures for military purposes and living quarters; the underground connection is part of its described structure.
The Atlantikwall Museum Noordwijk consists of a series of bunkers from the Second World War. A visit to the exhibition and tunnel system gives an impression of life in the bunkers during the Second World War.
Noordwijk was one of the Dutch beaches from which Engelandvaarders set off directly across the North Sea. The Engelandvaarders Museum tells the story of young men and women who fled the occupied Netherlands during the Second World War.
From England, these men and women continued the fight against Nazi Germany and Japan.
