Townscape and History

The area around Voorstraat in Noordwijk-Binnen has been designated as a protected townscape. The town centre of Noordwijk-Binnen has medieval origins. Noordwijk-Binnen developed in connection with the rise of herb cultivation in the 16th century.

Culture

The Oude Jeroenskerk is the oldest and best-known building in Noordwijk-Binnen. As a Gothic cruciform church, it is named after the martyr Jeroen. Visitors can climb the tower of the Oude Jeroenskerk via a staircase with more than 100 steps. From the top, they can look out over Noordwijk, the dunes and the sea.

The Weeshuispoortje, also known as the “Heilige Geest poortje”, was built in 1618 as an entrance to an orphanage. The Schutterij Sint Jorisgilde is the oldest schutters' guild in the Netherlands that is still fully operational.

Museum and Gardens

The Streekmuseum Veldzicht is located in a farmhouse built by Jacobus Hoogeveen in 1864. Flower bulbs, herbs and Blaarkop cattle are central to the Streekmuseum Veldzicht.

The barn at Museum Veldzicht offers educational activities such as demonstrations, workshops and a treasure hunt. The topics covered by these activities are food, textiles and rope-making.

The Historisch Kruidenveld at Museum Veldzicht features culinary herbs, forgotten vegetable varieties, edible flowers, as well as medicinal and dye plants. The grounds of the Streekmuseum Veldzicht include two historic herb gardens. There is also a flower and bulb garden, as well as a flower-picking garden.

The Flora van Noordwijk garden features flower bulbs characteristic of the Bollenstreek. The grounds of Museum Veldzicht include a rest area for visitors walking the Wandelroute Veldzicht through the agricultural landscape.

At Museum Veldzicht, the 1864 building, agriculture and the history of herb cultivation come together. The activities in the barn explore various historical aspects of everyday life, including food, textiles and rope-making, while the gardens showcase the diversity of culinary, medicinal and ornamental plants.

The Heilzaam Noordwijk Route can begin at the Streekmuseum Veldzicht. It includes an audio tour about the history of herb cultivation in Noordwijk and the town's development into a health resort.

A winding footpath has been laid out along the dune ridge at Landgoed Calorama. The Coepelduynen are located near Noordwijk-Binnen, within Nationaal Park Hollandse Duinen.
