Churches, monuments and distinctive traces in the architecture

The church at Hoornseweg 12 is a municipal monument. H.H. Antonius en Cornelius was built in 1917 as a neo-Gothic church in a central location in Den Hoorn and designed by Nicolaas Molenaar senior and Nicolaas Molenaar junior.

De Rijstuin also tells the story of a building that has undergone several changes. The former school building was constructed in 1873 as a public primary school with two classrooms and a council chamber, and was converted into a Reformed church in 1950. At the Herrenbauernhof “Rehoboth”, the decorative façade elements have since become rare in the area. Details like these add further traces in the townscape to the larger stories of the buildings. The Tuindersschoorsteen on the unnumbered Hoornsekade in Den Hoorn is a municipal monument dating from around 1900.

Routes for different daily plans

The DNA Den Hoorn Verhalenwandeling is a self-guided hiking route approximately 7 kilometres long. Signposts equipped with QR codes convey the history of Den Hoorn through ten stories. The route begins at the start of Dijkshoornseweg near the Hoornsevaart or Kickert and ends at Koningin Julianaplein.

Shorter routes have different focuses. The Cultuurroute Den Hoorn is a 2.5-kilometre walking route along paths, past municipal monuments and with unexpected views. The Tuindersroute Den Hoorn covers 4.5 kilometres through Den Hoorn’s former horticultural area. At 2.5 kilometres, the Cultuurroute remains the shorter walking route, while the Tuindersroute, at 4.5 kilometres, falls between the two. The Ommetje Den Hoorn Kruikiuspad is approximately 7 kilometres long. The shorter route remains a compact walk, while the longer routes require more time for local stories or landscapes.

The Natuurwandeling Den Hoorn is 6 kilometres long and passes through parks, over water, along reed beds and through avenues of pastureland. At six kilometres, this route falls between the Cultuurroute and the routes of approximately 7 kilometres. The Tanthofkade provides another geographical reference point: in Den Hoorn, it begins as a narrow side road off the Hoornseweg beside Café Delfland. The Tanthofkade route is marked with the coloured markings of a long-distance hiking trail.
