The Kaag ferry runs between Kaag and Buitenkaag around the clock and is the only access to the island. The Fluisterboot KaagErvaaring is designed for guests with disabilities; wheelchairs can be easily taken on board and brought ashore again. Paths for different daily itineraries

The Familie Wandelpad Kaag is a 5 km hiking trail through Buitenkaag and the picturesque island of Kaag. It runs along paved paths and is accessible to pushchairs, mobility scooters, rollators and wheelchairs. Along the route are, among other things, a water play area, a birdwatching wall and an observation tower. This allows you to take the length and stops into account when planning your day.

Three routes differ in length. Groene Lusjes: Kaag is a 3.3 km walking route starting at Julianalaan 13a in Kaag. The Kaag Historisch Actief walking route is 6 km long and begins at the Kaag ferry. Kaag Toen & Nu is a circular route of less than 2 km on Julianalaan, which you can explore on foot or by bicycle; it includes audio stories about the island. The different lengths help you adapt your daily itinerary to your interests.

Church, local history and cheese

The Protestantse Kerk te Kaag is a late Victorian hall church with a centrally positioned pulpit. It is a Rijksmonument because its interior includes copper reading desks, a support for a baptismal font and two 18th-century copper chandeliers. Kaag is probably the oldest village centre in the municipality of Kaag en Braassem. The name Kaag probably derives from the word “kaghe” for land outside the dikes, which is documented as early as 1308.

De Kaagse Boer on Kaag combines a farm and a cheese dairy. The cheese museum of De Kaagse Boer on Kaageiland is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00 from April to October, and outside this season by appointment.

Nature observation with seasonal differences

In the immediate vicinity of Kaag, the Lakerpolder is accessible year-round on the designated route between sunrise and sunset. There is a birdwatching point at the end of Irenelaan; there, the black-tailed godwit, shoveler, lapwing, redshank and oystercatcher are among the five most common bird species. When planning, also bear in mind the Laarzenpad Kaag: it is not accessible during the breeding season from 15 March to 15 July.
