The Andreas Schotel Museum opened in Esbeek in May 2009. Groups can visit the museum by prior arrangement. The Andreas Schotel hiking route starts and ends at the museum at Dorpsstraat 2 in Esbeek. It offers 3- or 10-kilometre options and connects life-size sculptures and easels with various depictions in nature. The different route lengths help you tailor your hiking day to the time you have planned and your preferred pace.

Another independent hiking route is d’n Flaestoren. It was developed in cooperation with the Heemkunde Esbeek local history working group and includes stories about the area along the way. The route is 7.5 kilometres long in total and can be shortened to 5 kilometres. Its destination is the Flaestoren observation tower, from which you can see as far as Belgium. In this way, the route combines exercise, an experience of the landscape and a distinctive viewpoint, without requiring you to commit to a single route length.

Cycling through artistic landscapes

There is also a clear thematic focus for cycling tours. The first Kunstfietstocht route is approximately 24 kilometres long and runs via Esbeek, Landgoed De Utrecht, Baarschot and Diessen before returning to the starting point. Forest, heathland and nature observation

Landgoed De Utrecht, which consists predominantly of coniferous forest, is located in the area around Esbeek. There are also the Flaes and Goor fens with heathland and an observation tower, the Reusel valley, and the De Broekeling Gagelmoor with the Hoogeindsche Beek. At Natuurbegraafplaats De Utrecht, you can walk across heathland, through a wet marsh forest and through various types of deciduous forest. The quiet woodland areas provide opportunities to observe birds, amphibians and plants. Hiking is also possible on the Rovertsche Heide.

Hiking and cycling are permitted on existing paths and roads on Landgoed De Utrecht; various signposted routes are available from the Hilvarenbeek Infopunt. A wheelchair-accessible nature trail is easily accessible from Herberg “In den Bockenreyder”, where you can also park your car. Esbeek offers many kilometres of opportunities for cycling and hiking.
