A holiday apartment in Limbricht provides a base for days of holiday where architectural history, nature experiences and regional culinary delights can be combined. Kasteel Limbricht, the Oude Salviuskerk and the Limbrichterbos represent different sides of the town. Those who choose their accommodation based on their planned activities can alternate between cultural discoveries, walks, cycling routes and special culinary offerings.

Kasteel Limbricht between history and indulgence

Kasteel Limbricht is an early medieval motte castle surrounded by a moat. During a cultural tour, you will walk through the underground vaulted cellar of the main castle, dating from the 11th century. The tour also includes a visit to a small museum in the castle’s dungeon complex. On the motte stands a bronze statue of Entgen Luijten, whose life is also explored on a dedicated cycling route.

The castle also offers specific experiences for holiday days focused on good food and drink: Kasteel Limbricht offers a beer tasting featuring regional beers and exotic fruit beers. Kasteelbrood and several tapenades are served with it. Visitors can also book segway tours from Kasteel Limbricht. These tours pass through the estate and surrounding area and return to the castle terrace, where coffee or tea is offered.

Hiking and cycling around Limbricht

For an active day out, Kasteel Limbricht provides a 9.5-kilometre hiking route. It leads through the Limbrichterbos and ends in the castle courtyard. A longer perspective is offered by the 50.0 km cycling route “Route vol Verwondering Zuid-Lus”, which begins and ends at Kasteel Limbricht. The “De Heks van Limbricht” cycling route provides information about the life of Entgen Luijten through audio fragments.

The Oude Salviuskerk is part of Visit Zuid-Limburg’s “Route vol Verwondering Noord-lus”. Along this route, at the designated stops, you can use your own smartphone to access 360-degree and/or audio tours via QR codes on the façade signs. The different route lengths help you plan your day between a shorter forest outing and an extended cycling tour.

Churches, art and local places of remembrance

The Oude Salviuskerk preserves several remarkable details. Its choir contains Romanesque elements, including round windows and round-arched decorations beneath the eaves. It also contains wall paintings created around 1300. They are considered the oldest wall paintings ever found in a Dutch village church and can still be viewed.

The Heilig Hartbeeld stands at Burgemeester Coonenplein 2. It is part of the Nieuwe Sint Salviuskerk complex. Another way to get to know Limbricht through personal stories is the audio tour “Stolpersteine Limbricht, Grevenbicht, Obbicht en Einighausen”. It begins at Burgemeester Coonenplein in Limbricht and leads past all the Stolpersteine. The audio tour “Heden ik, morgen gij – verhalen van Limbricht” begins at Kasteel Limbricht.

Experience the Limbrichterbos mindfully

The Limbrichterbos is a beech forest crossed by two streams. During quiet times of day, the knocking or drumming of woodpeckers can be heard throughout the forest. This makes the woodland area a natural experience that complements the historic destinations and is particularly rewarding for attentive observation and listening. When choosing a holiday apartment in Limbricht, this alternation between castle, church, routes and forest can determine the desired rhythm of your stay.
