Vlodrop is located on the edge of De Meinweg National Park. From Vlodrop, you can set off on foot or by bicycle towards the Koebroek woods and the adjoining border area with Germany. One specific option is the Rothenbach–Vlodrop Station hike: it is 12 kilometres long, and on this route visitors experience the nature of De Meinweg National Park and the German Schwalm-Nette Nature Park.

The connection between landscape and distinctive local features is also evident at MERU. MERU, Maharishi European Research University, has been located in Vlodrop in De Meinweg National Park since 1990. There is a forest park at MERU where you can go for a walk. By arrangement, MERU offers groups guided tours from Monday to Saturday lasting 1.5 hours, including a refreshment. This option is particularly interesting if you are planning an outing with a specific cultural or thematic focus.

History and architectural heritage as part of your stay

One of the notable historic sites is the Gitstappermolen, a watermill in Vlodrop built in 1377. It is classified as a Rijksmonument, meaning a national monument. The water of the Rothenbach feeds the Gitstappermolen; at this point, the Rothenbach forms the border between Germany and the Netherlands. At the mill, the history of technology, the landscape and the special location of the border region come together directly.

Another cultural landmark is the Sint Martinuskerk in Vlodrop. It was built in 1929–1930 based on a design by Caspar Franssen. The Vlodrop-Karken-Posterholt parish was first mentioned in 1190. The town's religious history therefore extends considerably further back than the present church, while the Gitstappermolen dates back even further.

Hiking, cycling, swimming and regional products

The natural attractions can be combined with a variety of day plans. A 12-kilometre hike will appeal to you if you would like to experience the landscape of the Meinweg and the German Schwalm-Nette Nature Park more extensively. For shorter or more flexible activities, you can set off from Vlodrop on foot or by bicycle towards the Koebroek woods and the border area. The Ploensjbad in Vlodrop has a competition pool and a children's pool, offering two clearly different pool areas for a day of swimming.

The local character of Vlodrop also includes the mill shop at the Gitstappermolen. It sells Limburg regional products as well as flour, baked goods, vegetables, meat, cheese and dairy products.
