Hiking trails and the De Doort natural area

The ponds are remnants of former clay-mining activities; the largest bodies of water on the northern side are old clay pits excavated in the 1950s for the De Valk roof-tile factory in Echt.

The trails run along forest paths and through meadows; in wet weather, some sections follow a muddy woodland path.
