The starting point of the hiking network is marked by a red information panel at Doetinchemseweg 175. From this starting point, four trails lead through the area around the village. The circular walk “Rondje Westendorp” starts in the village and passes through the “Tandem” country estate. It then follows Buulsdijk and Smoddedijk towards the new Hoenderbosch nature area. If you enjoy exploring on foot, this route offers a practical way to get to know Westendorp and its surroundings along one continuous trail.

Country estates, forests and wildlife watching

The Tandem country estate lies near Westendorp, to the east in the direction of Varsseveld. A striking beech avenue leads to Huis Tandem; it was planted in 1900. The old avenue is therefore a tangible feature of the landscape, linking a walk through the surroundings with a historical connection.

The Noorderbroek woodland area is also nearby and is crossed by the Slingebeek. There are good chances of spotting deer there. The extensive Slangenburg woodland area also borders the village and contains a wildlife park. These different woodland and landscape areas give you several reasons to explore Westendorp not just on a single hike, but in different directions.

A signposted cycling route

In addition to hiking, you can also explore the surrounding area by bicycle. The short, signposted “Stap op Stap af” cycling route leads through the area around Varsseveld, Westendorp and Sinderen.
