Church, estate and distinctive buildings

The Dorpskerk in Hummelo was built in 1838 on the site of an older church, first mentioned in 1328. Its architectural history makes it an interesting destination for visitors interested in established village structures and historical developments. At the Dorpskerk, a 19th-century building and the memory of an older church thus come together. Landgoed Enghuizen also has a long history: it was first mentioned as a Havezate in 1326. Only fragments of natural stone remain of Kasteel Enghuizen on the estate.

The village is also home to Het Wapen van Heeckeren, a single-storey cross-wing building from the early 19th century with a hipped roof. The use of the De Gouden Karper building in Hummelo as an inn or brewery can be traced back to 1642. A completely different accent is added by the life-size bronze monument to the rock band Normaal, which stands in Hummelo. The monument adds a connection to rock music to the village’s history.

Hekenbroek and trails through the surrounding area

The wet carr woodland nature reserve of Hekenbroek is located in the immediate vicinity of Hummelo. Many species of butterflies, fungi, toads and salamanders occur there. The Tegelroute Hummelo starts behind the Normaal monument near Kasteelzicht and thus leads from a starting point in the village into the surrounding area.

Various routes also reflect the history and landscape of the surrounding area. The Monumentenroute Hummelo-Keppel-Drempt passes through Hummelo and along Landgoed Enghuizen. The Bronckhorster landleven cycling route follows a centuries-old trade route through the municipality of Bronckhorst and is surrounded by forests, meadows and fields. Cyclists and hikers can stop at Het Wapen van Heeckeren for coffee, tea or hot chocolate. A break with coffee, tea or hot chocolate can be planned as a separate part of the tour.

Animal encounter and spiritual accent

Alpaca Boerderij Hummelo offers a Meet & Greet with close contact with alpacas. The Meet & Greet adds a separate activity alongside village history and landscape. Visitors are welcome at the village church in Hummelo for a Sunday service at 10:00 a.m. The fixed time gives the church visit a clear place on Sunday.
