Alde Tsjerke and Historic Farmhouses

The Alde Tsjerke in Kollumersweach is a single-nave church dating from the 12th century and a Rijksmonument. Its windows and the three-sided closed chancel date from the 15th century, while the unarticulated saddle-roof tower dates back to the 12th century. In 1872, it was partially demolished and repaired; in 1960, it underwent another restoration according to plans by A. Baart jr. The church also has an organ built in 1904 by Bakker & Timmenga in Leeuwarden. The church thus brings together architectural elements from the 12th and 15th centuries with an organ from 1904.

Two other Rijksmonumenten stand along the Foarwei. Foarwei 145 is a small farmhouse under a thatched roof. Foarwei 149 is a farmhouse under a thatched roof with an associated bakehouse.

Visiting Hours and Nature at Lauwerspoel

In 2026, the Alde Tsjerke will take part in Tsjerkepaad for the first time. It will then be open from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the entire Tsjerkepaad period.

Lauwerspoel is an old pingo remnant with open water and swamp woodland. Its dense vegetation provides a habitat for insects, birds and small mammals. There is a bench and an information board beside Lauwerspoel. The combination of open water and swamp woodland provides a landscape contrast to the church and farmhouses.

Walk or Cultural-Historical Cycling Tour

It Lauwerspoelpaad is part of the walking junction network of Recreatieschap Marrekrite. The route offers an approximately half-hour circular walk from Tsjerkestrjitte via Lauwerspoel to Tsjerkepaad. The walk connects Tsjerkestrjitte, Lauwerspoel and Tsjerkepaad in a single route. Its approximate duration provides a clear time frame for planning the day. The approximately half-hour walk along It Lauwerspoelpaad remains a short option for day planning; by contrast, the 30-kilometre western route requires a longer time frame.

For a longer outing, the western cultural-historical cycling route is available. It is 30 km long and offers telephone information along the way about notable buildings, monuments and other sights along the route. The fixed length of 30 km gives the cycling tour its own framework for planning the day. For the 30-km route, the day's schedule can take into account not only cycling time but also additional time for planned breaks. The specific duration of the walk and the fixed length of the cycling route help you estimate the scope of each outing in advance.
