Tonckensbos features a varied landscape with canals, wetlands, forests and a heathland area. The woodland includes various trees, small bodies of water and numerous animals, insects and fungi. The Reeweg also tells of an earlier connection: it has always linked Zuidvelde and Norg as a sandy road across the Norger Es and served mainly as a church path to the Sint-Margarethakerk in Norg. The “From Norg to Tonckensbosch” hiking route leads southwards from Norg. A cycling route through Zuidvelde turns right at the cycle path and the Brink, then continues along a narrow path in front of the last farmhouse, turns left onto a sandy road via a shell path and continues to a paved road.

The De Velden natural burial ground is partly located in Zuidvelde and has been there since early 2019. Together with Tonckensbos, the Brink and the historic paths, it broadens the possible perspectives on the village.
