Several hiking routes run along and through the Peizermaden. The De Onlanden hiking route is just under 7 kilometres long. Even more extensive is the 12.5-kilometre hike “Dorpsommetje ’t Paiser Hopje plus de Onlanden”: it leads through Peize, past several historic sites, as well as through De Onlanden and De Stenhorsten. This hike can be shortened to a village loop of around 6 kilometres. The different route lengths make it easier to plan anything from a manageable circuit to a longer day of hiking.

Nature, cycling routes and outdoor activities

From Peize, you can enter De Onlanden directly. You can cycle through the extensive landscape; around Peize, cycling routes can be downloaded or put together yourself. Regular guided bird-, cycling and deer excursions were offered from De Onlanderij in Eelderwolde. At the multifunctional Beweegpark on Boerakkerweg, Peize enables clubs, local residents and passers-by to exercise outdoors. Churches and historic traces in Peize

The village church in Peize houses the Verbeeck-Schnitger-Hinsz organ from 1631. The Schnitger organ in Peize’s village church is the oldest organ in Drenthe and contains more than 1,000 pipes. The church’s baptismal font also stands out for its history and design: it is around 800 years old and carved from a single block of sandstone. It was purchased by the Provincial Museum at the end of 1883 and returned to the church on loan in 1988. The tower of the Ned. Herv. Kerk in Peize dates from 1803.

The surviving part of a building that had originally existed as early as the 16th century was incorporated into a farmhouse from 1837.
