History

Risan’s Illyrian origins date back to the 3rd century BC. Risan became a centre and the main fortress of the Illyrian state and is associated with the reign of Queen Teuta. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Risan can then continue their search for accommodation.

Culture

The Museum of Risan presents the foundations of the Roman Villa Urbana, the mosaic patterns room by room and a central atrium. The site preserves mosaics in five rooms, including a striking depiction of the sleeping god Hypnos.

Near Risan, in Lipci, there are prehistoric rock carvings described as the oldest in Montenegro and associated with settlement in the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age.
