Hiking trails between the Our Valley and Buchenburg

The Éislek Pad Heinerscheid leads down into the Our Valley. The trail is signposted in both directions with Éislek markers, providing clear guidance when planning your hike. Another hiking trail from Heinerscheid passes through the typical landscape of northern Luxembourg and gradually descends to the River Our. On the descent, rocky peaks and dense forests accompany the trail. These varied landscapes give you the opportunity to focus your stay more strongly on nature and activity.

Historical traces can also be found along the trails. One hiking path passes the site known as “Al Kiirch”. The surviving foundation walls there are a reminder of the former church and the village of Buchenburg. Around 300 years ago, the former church of Buchenburg served as the parish church for Heinerscheid and Hüpperdingen. Anyone interested in local history can combine this stop with the experience of the landscape, without turning it into a purely museum visit.

Cycling route, places of remembrance and special experiences

For another way to discover the region, there is the signposted “Jardins à suivre” cycling route. It leads through Our Nature Park and associates Heinerscheid with the artists’ garden “Les croix du vent”. One of the two long Escapardenne loops also starts in Heinerscheid. This gives you options in the village both for a cycling tour and for planning a longer hike.

A memorial commemorates the 6th US Armored Division during the Ardennes Offensive. The memorial includes the coat of arms of Heinerscheid and a ground map showing the advance of the 6th Armored Division. In addition, a remembrance ceremony was held at the bunker on April 25, 2025, for the young people from Heinerscheid who lost their lives in April 1944. These places of remembrance give your stay a historical dimension and make it clear that the village’s history was also shaped by the events of the 20th century.

Ourdaller beer at the Cornelyshaff

At the Ourdaller brewery in the Cornelyshaff, beer is brewed using traditional methods in front of guests. Tastings of the Ourdaller microbrewery’s beers are also offered in the Cornelyshaff bar. The brewery names water, hops and malt as the basic ingredients of its beer and lists “Okult”, “Wäissen”, “Wëllen” and “Hengeschter” as house specialties. Ourdaller beer is neither filtered nor pasteurized or stabilized.

The building itself also contributes to the local history: Cornelyshaff was originally a traditional farm, then became a timber trading office and, between 1850 and 1880, an emigration office for the United States. A visit there can therefore be combined not only with regional beer, but also with a look at the changing functions of the site.
