Beiler: Sacred Art and Routes to the Our Valley
Accommodation in Beiler
Beiler can be explored through two very different themes: the sacred furnishings of Saint Odilia and routes leading into the Our Valley or the area around the Weiswampach lakes. In the church, you will find a stained-glass window depicting Moses with the two tablets of the Law, a Stations of the Cross with 14 stations, and an ornate altar. Outside, options range from promenades from Beiler down into the valley to walking trails near the lakes. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Beiler, you can first consider whether you would like your stay to focus more on local art, a longer circular route or walking trails.
Sacred details at Saint Odilia
Saint Odilia is located at Duarrefstrooss 20, L-9944 Beiler (Weiswampach). A stained-glass window depicts Moses with the two tablets of the Law and is one of the windows dating from 1923. The image gives the church interior a biblical reference; the year provides a date for the windows. The Stations of the Cross at Saint Odilia comprises 14 stations and depicts Christ’s Passion, from his condemnation to his execution. Unlike the individual image in the window, this is a sequence of stations following the story of the Passion.
The altar also features striking details: chased floral and ear-of-wheat vines, as well as Baroque woodcarving. The botanical ornaments and carving complement the imagery of the window and the Stations of the Cross with a closer look at the altar’s design. For travelers interested in culture, several aspects of sacred art are represented here: an individual biblical image, a series of stations and ornamental woodcarving.
Promenades, lakes and walking trails
Promenades lead from Beiler down into the Our Valley. The two artificial lakes of Weiswampach are also located near Beiler; each lake covers six hectares. Walking trails by the lakes include the Conzefenn nature trail and the local WW 3 trail. The Conzefenn nature trail passes through the nature reserve of the same name. If you would like to choose routes based on their connection to the landscape, there is a specific distinction here: the nature reserve is part of the route described for the nature trail; WW 3 is another named walking trail.
The promenades from Beiler and the walking trails by the lakes offer different points of reference for planning your day. You can first decide whether to focus on routes leading towards the Our Valley or walking trails in the area around the lakes. The two lakes are artificial and the same size; each covers six hectares.
The “Looss d’Kierch am Duerf” circular trail
A municipal description from 2023 mentions the 27-kilometre-long “Looss d’Kierch am Duerf” circular trail. The route passes through Holler, Breidfeld, Weiswampach, the Fleck Chapel near the Lancaster Memorial, Ouren (B), Oberhausen (B), Leithum, Beiler, Weiswampach and back to Holler. Beiler is therefore one stop on a longer circular tour that includes several places. The route is described on a different scale from the walking trails by the lakes: its length is given as 27 kilometres, whereas the area of each lake is stated. Check the route and signposting separately when planning.
Another historical connection to a route dates back to Roman times. The historic route of a connecting road branches off from the Thommen–Luxembourg road near Käsfurt (Beiler) and leads eastwards via Lascheid to Reuland and Lommerweiler. This adds a regional-history aspect to the church imagery and walking trails: the route is described in terms of its starting point and direction.
