Culture and History

The history of Dubingiai is closely associated with the Radvila family. In the 16th and 17th centuries, their palace and an Evangelical Reformed church stood here. This is particularly interesting for travellers interested in the history of the nobility and the Church.

A Catholic church was founded at the site of Dubingiai Castle Hill before 1430; the foundation is attributed to Grand Duke Vytautas.

The church, built in the first half of the 19th century, was destroyed by a major fire in 1954; the rectory survived.

Nature

Dubingiai lies on the shore of Lake Asveja, which is described as Lithuania's longest lake.

Faith and Change

The town's religious history reflects the changes of the Reformation era: the church passed to the Evangelical Lutherans. The Catholics initially worshipped in a cemetery chapel and later received new Catholic places of worship.
