Kalnėnai: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Venta runs along the southern edge of Kalnėnai. The old cemeteries of Kalnėnai are located on a small hill at the foot of the slope of the Venta’s second flood terrace.

Landscape

The landscape includes Birželė, a birch grove by the Venta in Kalnėnai, and Petroškos pušynas, a 7-hectare pine forest in Kalnėnai. The Dubupis winds through tree-covered meadows and has a rocky riverbed. The Pavenčių keliukas also runs along the floodplains of the Kalnėnai River: a 2-kilometre path through meadows with shrubs.

Water

The Kalnėnai-I Reservoir is classified as a reservoir of national importance. The Kalnėnai-II Reservoir was created by damming an unnamed tributary of the Venta. Its banks are relatively high and sparsely covered with trees and shrubs.

In Mažeikiai District, six rest areas for water tourism and 19 information boards about attractions have been established along the water tourism route on the Venta.

Culture and History

Kalnėnų kapinynas II is listed under the identifiers 6380 and AV657. Human bones as well as bronze and iron objects were found at Balsio kapeliai. A field road runs through Balsio kapeliai from west to east.

The Kalnėnų I–II cemeteries, known as Dainiaus Bulviarūsiai, are located in a wooded area. Rimkaus kapeliai was formerly called Milžinkapiai; a wooden cross erected in 1927 stands at Rimkaus kapeliai.

Kalnėnai was mentioned in 1605 in the inventory of Tirkšliai Manor.

Orientation

A railway line runs through the northern part of Kalnėnai.
