Holiday apartment in Radi: Trails, Culture and the Contrada Radi
Radi has traditionally been connected with Nogarole through parish life and local festivals. Several trails lead to or pass through the Contrada Radi.
Trails to the Contrada Radi
On foot, the “Itinerario tra le colline della Valle del Chiampo verso Nogarole” follows a woodland trail uphill to the Contrada Radi. The Contrada Radi is the designated destination of this section of the trail.
The “Nogarole Trail – Valle del Tinazzo” reaches the Contrada Radi after a turn-off in the woods behind Via Radi. From the Contrada Radi, the trail follows an unpaved gravel road through meadows and then continues along the path. As a mountain-bike descent route, the same trail runs along Via Radi and through the Contrada Radi. The walking route and the mountain-bike descent route therefore differ in terms of means of transport and surface. The trail is thus specifically located via the turn-off in the woods, Via Radi, the Contrada Radi, and the transition to the gravel road, meadows, and path.
The Stations of the Cross and the Pieve in Chiampo
The Via Crucis in Chiampo is a spiritual Stations of the Cross route with several stations. It includes life-size bronze statues. The stations and bronze statues give the route a clearly structured sequence. The Pieve of Chiampo was built before the year 1000 and was the starting point for the evangelization of Valchiampo.
The Pieve contains a painted marble statue of the Madonna and Child dating from 1480. There is also a Baroque altar dating from 1743. The Franciscan community began its presence at the Pieve of Chiampo in 1867. The years 1480, 1743, and 1867 reveal different historical layers of the Pieve.
Grotto, Sanctuary, and Museum
The Grotto of Chiampo was inaugurated on September 29, 1935. It is a faithful copy of the Lourdes Grotto in the French Pyrenees. The tomb of Blessed Claudio is located at the foot of the Grotto.
Along Viale dell’Incoronata, the Sanctuary of Chiampo has a picnic area. The Museum of Chiampo displays a collection featuring slabs made from 74 types of Chiampo marble. The collection demonstrates the range of marble named after Chiampo through its 74 types.
The Cammino del Beato Claudio
The “Cammino del Beato Claudio” is a 189 km spiritual and cultural route from Santa Lucia di Piave to Chiampo. It connects the municipalities via secondary roads. The route can be completed on foot or by bicycle. Chiampo is therefore both the destination of the Cammino and the location of the Pieve, Grotto, Sanctuary, and Museum described above.
