Trails and active days in Gallio

The mountain trails around Gallio include mule tracks built by soldiers during the First World War and can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. For walks, the Valle dei Mulini offers a network of paths through places of historical and scenic interest. The Percorso ciclo-pedonale della Pace is also located near the town centre.

For cross-country skiing, the Centro Fondo Campomulo has more than 150 km of trails. The alpine ski slopes of Melette 2000 are located within the municipality of Gallio, approximately 4.5 km from the town centre. The Valle dei Trampolini at Pakstall is approximately 1 km from the town centre and has ski-jumping hills, including the K95; international competitions have been held there.

Rocks, forests and distinctive landscapes

Near the Santuario della Madonna del Buso lies a narrow canyon carved into the rock by the Frenzela stream. The Spitzknotto, also known as Spizegonotto, is a massive altar-shaped boulder in the Stoccareddo area of the Val Frenzela. The Melette di Gallio are home to monumental, centuries-old beech trees known as “le Puche”; the Cimbrian name means “beech”.

History and culture along the way

The mills in the Valle dei Mulini processed grain from the Altopiano and powered Pestascorze machines used to produce tanning agents for leather tanning. Another combination of nature and culture is offered by the Libr'Albero: it contains carvings of local fauna and a small display case with books by Mario Rigoni Stern and other mountain stories.

The Libr'Albero is a work of art and a reading retreat along the path to Monte Longara in Gallio. It was created from the trunk of a centuries-old spruce that was blown down during Storm Vaia in autumn 2018. The Sentiero del Silenzio runs through the forest near Campomuletto and recalls the events of the First World War that shaped the Altopiano di Asiago between 1915 and 1918.

Pilgrimage and spiritual places

The rebuilt Santuario della Madonna del Buso was inaugurated and blessed on 27 May 1927. It is dedicated to the Madonna del Caravaggio and became a pilgrimage destination, particularly on 26 May and 26 July.

E-bike experiences and traditional mountain cuisine

Le Melette offers four guided e-bike experiences, starting at the E-Bike Welcome Desk at Località Melette 1 in Gallio. Le Melette’s e-bike programme is led by certified AMI guides and runs across meadows, historic mule tracks and nature trails. The gourmet tour combines e-bike riding with breakfast at a mountain hut and lunch at a mountain pasture or in a traditional hut featuring local products from a short supply chain.

The mountain refuges and alpine huts of Campomulo also offer traditional mountain cuisine.
