Ponte Nelle Alpi: River Landscape and Culture

Ponte Nelle Alpi combines nature, culture and active days. The landscapes of the Destra Piave include the floodplains of the Piave, meadows and urban parks in the plain around Ponte Nelle Alpi, formerly cultivated terraces above the settlement, as well as the forests and grazing meadows of Frusseda. Between the river floodplains, the plain and the terraces at higher elevations, the landscape forms change; Frusseda also adds forests and grazing meadows.

Landscapes of the Destra Piave

The forests and grazing meadows of Frusseda provide access to the area of Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi. Monte Dolada and Monte Serva are located in the vicinity of Ponte Nelle Alpi; Monte Beccola and Col Falalto are in the surrounding area.

Culture on the Piave and in the surrounding area

The Chiesa di Santa Caterina stands in Ponte Nelle Alpi on a rocky precipice above the Piave. It features a varied, complexly designed fresco cycle from the 14th century, unique in the Belluno area. The location and the fresco cycle belong to the same church building.

Several cultural destinations are also located around Ponte Nelle Alpi: Palazzo del Capitano is a palace, Museo Civico Belluno is a museum, and Palazzo dei Rettori is also a palace. Belluno is a historic site in the vicinity of Ponte Nelle Alpi.

Active Experiences and Specific Route Sections

For active days, Falesia di Socchèr offers slightly more than twenty technically demanding climbing routes of medium to high difficulty. Overhanging sections alternate with slabs and walls there. In Socchèr, these wall formations are located within the same crag.

Access to Falesia di Socchèr continues on foot from a car park in front of the ruins of San Giorgio Castle.

The ancient Roman road can also be followed along the Destra Piave. From Villa Montalban in the hamlet of Safforze, it can be followed via a cycle and footpath towards Nuova Erto, through Polpet and onwards via Pian di Vedoia. The route connects the ancient Roman road with a cycle and footpath in the Destra Piave.

The 1oo km dell'Alpago route reaches the hamlets of Oltrerai in the municipality of Ponte Nelle Alpi after a long descent from a mountain refuge. From Soccher, it follows the right bank of the Cellina Canal, passes through Paiane and then reaches the area of Paludi. The long descent from the mountain refuge and the passage along the right bank of the canal mark two distinct sections of the route.

The Chiesette-della-Val-Belluna route is more than 110 kilometres long. With this length, planning the stages becomes an obvious aspect of the route format.
