Culture and traces of the past in Dosoledo

In Dosoledo stands the Chiesa dei SS. Rocco e Osvaldo. The Neoclassical church was designed by Colusso and later by Giuseppe Segusini and contains valuable frescoes and altars. The combination of Neoclassical architecture, frescoes and altars gives the building its own art-historical significance. Those interested in architectural history can compare the Neoclassical church with the 17th-century palace opposite in Dosoledo. Palazzo Zandonella - Dall'Aquila is also located in Dosoledo. The 17th-century palace was associated with a wealthy family involved in the timber trade and houses the Museo Algudnei.

The Maskarada is part of the local tradition: In Dosoledo, it is celebrated every year on the Sunday closest to 9 February, in honour of the patron saint Sant’Apollonia. The Maskarada complements this architectural history with an annual tradition. La Stua on the Torrente Padola also tells of the former importance of timber. The artificial dam made it possible to transport timber by rafting. The surrounding area also features the ancient Roggia dei Mulini site, the Batterie Corazzate di Col Vidal and Forte Alto di Col Vidal fortifications, as well as the ruins of the Ex Ricovero Militare di Val Inferna.

Trails for active and curious days

Comèlico Superiore has four themed trails: Tròi dli mascri, Tròi dli Tradizion, Tròi di bacani and Tròi di mistieri. Wooden statues stand along the trails.

The Tròi di mistieri runs between Padola and Dosoledo; its sculptures depict the work that has shaped the valley. The connection between Padola and Dosoledo gives this theme a clear geographical setting within the valley.

Stage 4, “da S. Pietro a Padola”, of the Sentiero Frassati passes through Dosoledo and then reaches Padola. A mountain-bike route begins at La Stua on the Torrente Padola at an altitude of 1,215 metres. La Stua links the history of timber transport with the starting point of the mountain-bike route.

From Comèlico Superiore, destinations including Valgrande, Alta Val Padola, Lago di Sant’Anna and trails to the Popèra can be reached.

Monte Aiarnola, Cima d'Ambata and Col Rosson are mountains in the immediate vicinity of Comèlico Superiore. Cima Bagni is a mountain in the surrounding area. The Ski Area Val Comelico is part of Dolomiti Superski, a ski network with 115 kilometres of ski slopes and 31 lifts.

The ski slopes of Padola reach an altitude of 2,000 metres at Col d’la Tenda and form part of the “Parco naturale UNESCO Dolomiti” route.
