Borca di Cadore is a mountain village in the Boite Valley in the province of Belluno. Paths through forests and meadows, historic traces, architecture and traditions give the village several distinct facets.

Paths through forests, meadows and panoramic landscapes

The walk to the Cascata di Borca starts in Borca, crosses the bridge over the Boite and then follows a forest track through a fir forest. At the Cascata di Borca, there is an equipped picnic area. This combines exercise in the landscape with a clearly defined break at the destination. The equipped picnic area can therefore be taken into account as a separate stopping point during the excursion.

For a longer hike, Trail No. 468 climbs gently westwards from Borca di Cadore/Serdes to the meadows around Taulà de Tiera at an elevation of approximately 1,271 m. When planning this hike, the gentle ascent westwards to approximately 1,271 m is the key consideration. Forcella Forada is a connecting point between Trail No. 468, which comes from Tièra, and Trail No. 480, and offers a very extensive panorama.

Rifugio Città di Fiume is a stage stop on the Alta Via delle Dolomiti No. 1. The Lunga Via delle Dolomiti follows the route of the former Dolomites railway; original stations, tunnels and bridges have been preserved.

Architecture, language and local traditions

One architectural facet is represented by the Eni Village in Borca di Cadore. The Eni Village was designed by Edoardo Gellner and built between 1954 and 1962. The Eni Village is home to the Church of Nostra Signora del Cadore, with raw-concrete exterior walls, a steeply pitched gable roof and a bell tower with a steel spire.

Ladin, a language rooted in the vernacular form of Latin and a strong symbol of identity, is still spoken in Borca di Cadore. The feast of Saint Anne, the patron saint of the village, is celebrated every July with religious services, music, traditional games and traditional dishes such as polenta with pastin and apple fritters. The parish church of Saints Simon and Jude also houses a G. Callido organ dating from 1791.

Active days and winter activities

Happy Park offers an equipped play area with slides, swings, wooden structures and seesaws. There is also a small pump track and cycling track for bicycles and mountain bikes.

Every winter, a 3 km loop course for cross-country skiing is prepared in Villanova; it starts just a few minutes from the village centre. The 3 km length provides a concrete reference point when planning cross-country skiing locally. A natural ice rink is also opened every winter, weather permitting.
