Sigillo preserves the character of a medieval village: closely spaced houses made of pink stone define the town. The Palazzo Comunale dates back to the 12th century. Churches and traces of the Via Flaminia

The Church of Sant'Agostino was built between 1788 and 1791 on the foundations of the former Church of Santa Caterina. The preserved medieval crypt of Santa Caterina has been restored and converted into a cultural centre. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta is a Romanesque sanctuary dating from the 12th century. It has a bell dating from 1250 and contains a fresco by the painter Matteo da Gualdo dated 1484.

The Chiesa di Sant'Anna and the Ponte Spiano are also connected with the ancient Via Flaminia. Sant'Anna was built in the mid-15th century along the ancient Via Flaminia. The Ponte Spiano lies just outside Sigillo and made it possible to cross the Fonturci stream there. The Church of Sant'Andrea houses an organ made in 1793 by the Venetian organ builder Gaetano Callido; it is considered the first and only surviving work by this organ builder in Umbria.

Landscape and nature observation

The area around Sigillo lies within Parco del Monte Cucco. The park is home to centuries-old beeches, maples, holm oaks, chestnuts, yews and hornbeams. Orto della Cicuta is a largely level natural balcony situated high above the valley, overlooking it. The natural rock wall of delle Lecce is a rock face up to 70 m high that appears to block off the valley. The temporary spring of delle Lecce forms a horizontal fissure in the limestone wall, from which a powerful, fan-shaped stream of water emerges when it rains.

Free flight, climbing and museums

Monte Cucco and Sigillo are suitable for free flight thanks to favourable orographic and meteorological conditions. Two facilities for sport climbing and bouldering have been inaugurated in Sigillo within Parco del Monte Cucco. When planning accommodation or a holiday apartment, you can therefore first decide whether culture, nature observation or sporting activities should be the main focus.

The “Brascugli” paleontological museum houses fossils and virtual displays on the palaeontology of the Monte Cucco area and the adjacent geological strata. The “Anton Pietro Valente” Museum houses part of a collection of 175 paintings that the painter, sculptor and scenographer Anton Pietro Valente (1896–1973) donated to Sigillo. The range therefore extends from geological strata and fossils to painting.
