Holiday apartment in Pian di Molino: village, bridges and mountain panorama
Pian di Molino is a very small village with a few stone houses. The panorama includes a stream, fields and the Apuan Alps in the background. Pian di Molino is one of the ten villages that make up the Pioero. A holiday apartment in Pian di Molino therefore offers you a stay in a small place where the village character and landscape stand closely side by side.
Oratorios and bridges in the village
The Oratorio di Sant’Antonio Abate forms the eastern end of the settlement centre. Its interior consists of two bays with cross vaults, separated by a central arch. The Oratorio della Madonna del Popolo is located on the road leading to Pian di Molino and the Pieve di Viano. Pian di Molino is also home to an impressive bridge with a large arch, built by the Malaspina of Castel dell’Aquila.
A characteristic humpback bridge crosses the Aulella River. The bridge of Pian di Molino connects with the road leading to the Monte dei Bianchi monastery. The “Ponte sul torrente Lucido - Pian di Molino” crosses the Aulella on three shallow segmental arches, each with a span of 18.5 metres. Thus, religious architecture, historic transport links and distinctive bridge structures come together in the village setting.
Craft traditions along the Lucido
In Pian di Molino, the Europaper s.p.a. paper mill has been documented since the 1950s as producing straw paper. In 1974, the paper mill began producing packaging board. The factory was established here because the necessary raw materials were available: straw from agriculture and water, which is still drawn from the Torrente Lucido today. This connection links local agriculture and the watercourse with the village’s industrial history.
Orientation and access
The SP 58 DIR UGLIANCALDO provincial road connects the SP 10 at Pian di Molino with the SP 58 near Mezzana. From Fivizzano, Pian di Molino can be reached in about 15 minutes via the SS63. At Cormezzano, turn into the Lucido Valley and continue via Gassano and Gragnola. These road connections help you place Pian di Molino within the surrounding villages and valleys without losing sight of the village’s small-scale settlement structure.
Connection to CAI Trail 192
Pian di Molino also plays a role in finding your way to a hiking trailhead: the route from Aulla to the starting point of CAI Trail 192 in Equi Terme leads via Fivizzano, Gassano, Gragnola and Pian di Molino. After Monzone railway station, the route branches off to Equi Terme before Monzone Alto. If you would like to combine culture, landscape and days of hiking, this sequence provides specific place names for your planning.
Choosing a holiday apartment in Pian di Molino
Choose a holiday apartment in Pian di Molino according to the focus of your holiday: the small-village character, the oratorios and bridges, the panorama of stream, fields and mountains, or the connections to the local roads and hiking routes. This allows you to decide for yourself whether your stay should focus more on discovering the village, the landscape of the Apuan Alps or its links to the surrounding routes and places.
