Holiday apartment in Gramolazzo: Lake, mountains and trails

In Gramolazzo, Lago di Gramolazzo, the surrounding mountains and the older Paese Alto come together. Sentiero CAI 189 leads from the outskirts through the Serchio valley floor and the Località Mandria area to the junction with Sentiero 181.

A lake with a history of water management

Lago di Gramolazzo is an artificial reservoir. It was created in the second half of the 20th century to harness the hydroelectric power of the Serchio River and its tributaries. The lake covers an area of approximately 1 km².

Its creation as an artificial reservoir links Lago di Gramolazzo with the Serchio River and its tributaries. On the left bank of the lake, Parco del Lago was inaugurated in 2016 as part of the tourist redevelopment. The landscaping of the shore therefore belongs to the later development of the body of water.

From the outskirts through the valley and chestnut forest

Sentiero CAI 189 begins at the state road immediately after the outskirts of Gramolazzo. The section from Gramolazzo to Foce Rifogliola initially runs through the broad valley floor of the Serchio. The trail then leads through the undulating Località Mandria area with a chestnut forest.

At the northern Spallone of Poggio, Sentiero CAI 189 joins Sentiero 181. This area is known as Alpe di Ugliano. When planning the trail section, the starting point at the outskirts and the junction at the northern Spallone of Poggio can be taken into account.

Mountains and peaks in the surrounding area

Several mountains and peaks lie around Gramolazzo. Monte Pisanino and Pizzo Maggiore are located nearby. Monte Pizzo d'Uccello and Monte Cavallo are also in the surrounding area.

Paese Alto and churches

Paese Alto is the older part of Gramolazzo and consists of stone houses. The church in Gramolazzo is locally known as “Chiesa Nuova”.

Chiesa Vecchia of Gramolazzo is located at an elevated position above the town and can be reached via small, steep roads.
