The Palazzo di Monte was built from 1515 onwards on behalf of Cardinal Antonio Di Monte, following designs by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder. It houses the Quadreria Comunale, whose collection began in 1680. It preserves portraits of important figures from Monte San Savino as well as members of the ruling Tuscan families. Etruscan traces have also been found in Monte San Savino.

The Logge dei Mercanti have five round-arched arcades and once housed the town’s covered market. They date from the 16th century and are now generally attributed to Nanni di Baccio Bigio. The Chiesa di Sant’Agostino was built in the 14th century and preserves a Gothic portal and a stained-glass window from 1524.

Theatrical History and Cultural Life

The Teatro Verdi complements this cultural focus. Its origins date back to the 17th century; in 1777 it became a permanent theatre. Today it has 230 seats and 37 boxes across three tiers and is considered a focal point of the town’s cultural life. Il Cammino delle Traslazione follows historic pilgrimage routes from Asciano in the heart of the Crete Senesi to the Santuario di Santa Maria delle Vertighe in the Valdichiana. The associated pilgrimage took place every year on 7 July and remained a living tradition until the period after the Second World War.

The ruins of Rocca di Civitella are located near Monte San Savino; the mountain Poggio del Sarto is also situated there.
