Corezzo lies at an altitude of around 760 metres above sea level in the heart of the Casentinesi Forests. The village is set among meadows, small woods and gardens in an appealing and impressive mountain landscape. At the same time, Corezzo is located on the road connecting Chiusi della Verna and Badia Prataglia through the valley of the Torrente Corsalone, as well as on the road between the Monastero di Camaldoli and the Santuario della Verna. Hiking trails right around Corezzo

CAI Trail No. 59 runs through Corezzo. Two CAI trails start from the village: Trail No. 59 leads over the Passo di Serra to Bagno di Romagna, while Trail No. 56 connects with the GEA route below Poggio Magiovanna. On Trail No. 59, the route runs west from Corezzo to the hamlet of Frassineta and east to the hamlet of Serra. The Via Romea Germanica also shapes the village’s network of routes: it leads from Corezzo to the village of Frassineta along a mule track. It is also possible to reach the old mountain village of Corezzo via a historic route of the Via Romea Germanica.

Open valleys, woods and pastures

A particularly scenic circular hike is Trek 17, a circular route designated by the national park starting from Corezzo. The outward leg leads via Frassineta and Santicchio, while the return route passes through Serra. The route runs through open valley areas, old fields and pastures, open oak woodlands and hazelnut groves.

Village history and the stories of Vallesanta

Corezzo is part of the Ecomuseo della Vallesanta. An antique Medici coat of arms can still be seen on the wall of a building on the main piazza. The “Stanza dei ricordi e delle sapienze manuali” museum was established in the school in Corezzo and is dedicated to research and practical projects focusing on encounters and workshops. Local tradition also includes the “Badalischio”, a local mythical and legendary figure. In Vallesanta, appearances attributed to him have been reported in places including Campo di Gostinello in Corezzo. Alongside the hiking trails, such specific sites and institutions give a stay a cultural and storytelling dimension.

Tortello alla Lastra and festivals throughout the year

Tortello alla Lastra® is a typical culinary speciality of the mountains between Romagna and Tuscany. The dough is made entirely by hand: it is rolled out with a rolling pin into a thin sheet, half of which is covered with potato filling. The filled Tortello alla Lastra® is then cooked on a slab of pietra serena. Every year in August, Corezzo hosts the Festa del Tortello alla Lastra. It began in 1995 with six tables in the village square. The Sagra del Tortello alla Lastra is considered the most important event organised by Pro Loco Corezzo. During the Festa, the Mercatale della Vallesanta takes place on 12, 13 and 14 August. In the first days of May, the “Cantamaggio della Vallesanta” is also performed by the children of the school in Corezzo.
