Palazzo del Pero is located in the Valcerfone, a valley through which the Cerfone stream flows, situated between the city of Arezzo and the Valtiberina. The village lies where the hills are interrupted by the narrow valley of the Cerfone.

The Cerfone Valley

Near Palazzo del Pero, the Cerfone Valley runs parallel to the Strada Statale 73, which connects Arezzo with Sansepolcro and Città di Castello.

Subalpine Surroundings and Mountain Panorama

Because the valley faces north and is enclosed to the south, the landscape has a subalpine character. The natural vegetation includes oaks, Turkey oaks, chestnut trees and occasional firs growing spontaneously. The valley setting, with its oaks, Turkey oaks, chestnut trees and occasional firs, forms a contrast with the ridge between the lower Valtiberina and the Valdichiana. Monte Favalto, which belongs to the Alpe di Poti massif and lies on the ridge between the lower Valtiberina and the Valdichiana, offers a 360-degree panorama. The mountain Monte Corneta is located near Palazzo del Pero. The mountains Monte Castiglion Maggio, Monte Scopiccio and Monte Civitella are also located in the area around Palazzo del Pero.

Mountain Biking Routes and a Hike

A 42-kilometre mountain biking circuit starts and ends in Palazzo del Pero. It passes through Dogana, Poggio della Caccia, Poggio dello Sbirro, Poggio di Bivignano, Le Terrine and Molin Nuovo before returning to Palazzo del Pero. When planning a cycling tour, the distance is a clear fixed measure; having the same starting and ending point makes the 42 kilometres a closed loop. Palazzo del Pero is also the starting and ending point for numerous mountain biking routes.

During a CAI hike published on 15 April 2018, the route began in Palazzo del Pero and headed towards Monte Favalto. The hike towards Monte Favalto therefore follows a different pattern from the cycling loop, which connects several stops and returns to Palazzo del Pero.

Culture and Special Places in the Surrounding Area

On 17 November 1527, Giorgio Vasari agreed with the parish priest of San Donnino to paint a fresco of Saint Roch above the baptismal font in the church of San Donnino. Behind the village of Palazzo del Pero, in the direction of Molin Nuovo on the Strada Statale 73, there is a small memorial site. The area around Palazzo del Pero is home to the La Grande Art Gallery museum, the ancient site of the Anfiteatro Romano Arezzo, the Palazzo Fraternità dei Laici palace and the Museum Ivan Bruschi Arezzo museum.
