Culture between church and forest

St. Valentine’s Church was first mentioned in documents in 1231. Part of the building erected in the early 16th century now forms the choir and preserves Late Gothic elements; frescoes from that period can be seen in the sacristy. Andrian’s yew forest also holds a historical detail: An old lime kiln was once used to produce lime as a building material, and its remains are well preserved. A fresco on the mountainside of the Sternbauerhof farm dates from 1519. It depicts four saints, vine ornaments, a coat of arms and an inscription.

From the car park at the upper end of Bindergasse, trail no. 15 leads directly into Gaider Gorge. The Andrian–Hocheppan–Andrian hike starts in the village square, follows marked trail 2 through the forest past the Kreideturm tower to Hocheppan Castle, and returns to Andrian along the same route. For getting there, Andrian can be reached by train or bus to Terlan; from there, Citybus no. 202, or no. 216 on public holidays, continues to Andrian.
