Fiume Santo beach belongs to the A.B.A.F. network (Aree Balneari ad Accesso Facilitato, bathing areas with facilitated access). Free supervised bathing is offered there until 30 September 2026, from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00. For the 2025 beach season, there was also a designated dog area approximately 250 metres long, which was available from 3 June. These clearly time-limited services are relevant when planning your stay, without reducing the character of the beach to a single use.

Fossils between the River Mouth and Antiquity

Fiume Santo also has a remarkable cultural and historical dimension. The Roman villa of Fiume Santo lies in the Nurra di Sassari area at the mouth of the river of the same name and a few miles from the ancient colony of Turris Libisonis. A palaeontological site was discovered at the Fiume Santo power station in 1994. Thousands of animal bones made it possible to reconstruct the region's ecosystem during the Miocene. The fossil fauna includes remains of Oreopithecus bambolii, nicknamed “Proto”, as well as giraffes, antelopes, small amphibians and reptiles, including a crocodile.

Excursions and Practical Information

An educational guided tour of the Fiume Santo power station can be requested via an online form. From Sassari, you can reach the beach via the signposted Fiume Santo turn-off, an asphalt road to the coast and a short unpaved section leading to the car parks. For the 2026 tourist season, traffic and parking at Fiume Santo beach are regulated by Municipal Ordinance 67/2026.
