The older building beneath the church had a single-nave, apsidal layout and two rooms on the sides of the presbytery.

The historic center is characterized by Campidanese houses built from air-dried adobe bricks, known as ladiri. The traditional manor house of Nurachi was arranged around a courtyard that was completely enclosed by adobe-brick walls; a rear courtyard was usually used as a vegetable garden.

Launeddas, fassoni and adobe bricks

The Museo Peppetto Pau is housed in an old manor house made of adobe bricks and worked stone. In an interactive application, visitors can virtually tune and play the launeddas. In this way, the museum combines tangible architectural heritage with direct access to a traditional Sardinian instrument.

Nurachi also has a long-standing tradition of making and using fassoni, or reed boats used by lagoon fishermen. The traditional architectural culture includes the production of air-dried adobe bricks, known as ladrini. These once shaped the local architecture and have been gaining importance again in recent years.

Connections along Sardinia’s west coast

The local tradition of the Sant’Agostino festival includes a running procession from Nurachi to S. Giovanni di Sinis. The SS 292 Nord Occidentale Sarda also runs through the Nurachi area. This important state road leads along Sardinia’s west coast from Oristano to Alghero and onward to the beaches of the Sinis Peninsula and the forests of Montiferru.

From Sardinia’s main arrival points, Nurachi can be reached via the SS 131 to Oristano and then via the SS 292 over a distance of approximately 10 kilometers.
