Holiday apartment in Ilbono: culture, trails and mountain scenery
Ilbono can be discovered through concrete experiences: historic churches, the archaeological area of Scerì, trails with impressive panoramic views, local festivals and traditional foods. Culture, landscape, crafts and cuisine offer several starting points for planning a trip that leaves room for shared discoveries as well as active sections and more leisurely visits.
Churches and archaeology as cultural highlights
At the centre of Ilbono stands the parish church of San Giovanni Battista. It was built in the 17th century over a probably Romanesque predecessor. The church of San Cristoforo offers panoramic views over the whole of Ilbono. The rural churches of San Rocco and San Pietro near Ilbono are also part of the local history: Roman finds have been discovered there.
The archaeological park of Scerì comprises a complex nuraghe with an attached structure, a village and two Domus de Janas. The archaeological area lies on a granite tower partly surrounded by the Tèscere River and blends into the natural surroundings. From Tortolì, Scerì can be reached via the SS 198 in the direction of Lanusei. After about 5 kilometres, turn left before the Cantoniera Baunuxi onto a signposted road and follow it to a gate.
Panoramic views around Tarè
Monte Tarè lies at an altitude of over 500 metres and forms a watershed between the sea and the coast around Bari Sardo and the inland area of Ilbono. The Tarè area is considered a zone of faunistic interest in Ilbono and can be reached via a trail with impressive panoramic views. An alternative hiking trail leads to the Parendaddai archaeological area near Ilbono and also offers visitors an impressive panoramic view. This makes it possible to combine archaeological destinations and landscape experiences when planning, without conflating them into a single place.
Festivals, crafts and local specialities
Ilbono celebrates Madonna delle Grazie every year on the first Sunday in July. According to local tradition, her statue was brought from the sea and transported from a beach to Ilbono on an ox-drawn cart. The Sagra di Olio e Olive takes place every year in March. Pane & Olio was held in Ilbono for the 22nd time in 2024 and for the 23rd time in 2025. The 2023 edition included guided tours of the craft producers and oil mills listed in the CCN.
Ilbono has a tradition of artistic craftsmanship. The Sa Omu ‘e is Ducus Museum displays antique furnishings, traditional costumes, lace, embroidery and woven works. Ilbono’s local food production includes Culurgiones, Pistoccu bread and Sebadas, made according to typical recipes from Ilbono. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether churches, the museum and archaeology, trails and panoramic views, or festivals and local specialities should be the focus of your stay.
