Beaches between sand, rock and Mediterranean scrub
The Marina di Tertenia stretches for twelve kilometres and includes sandy beaches interrupted by rocky coastal sections. Foxi Manna beach lies at the foot of Monte Cartucceddu and has light-coloured sand and a gently sloping seabed. Foxi Murdegu (also known as Melisenda) is more than one kilometre long and lined with Mediterranean scrub. This gives the coast a range of specific natural landscapes for days by the sea.
Art and coastal history
In Porto Santoru, the remains of a pier and mining facilities have been preserved among eucalyptus trees and mastic shrubs. They were connected with the transport of minerals. The coastal watchtower Torre di Sarralà (also known as Torre di Saralà or Torre di San Giovanni) is located in the marine area of the municipality of Tertenia and was built in the 18th century.
Art at the Museo Civico d’Arte Moderna
The Museo Civico d’Arte Moderna “Albino Manca” presents the biographical and artistic development of Albino Manca in six thematic rooms on two floors. It ranges from his years of training in Sardinia and Rome to his success in the United States. In this way, alongside coastal landscapes, the stay gains a clear focus on art and biography.
Paths and routes
The C-102 route is considered a link between the coastal area of Cardedu, Marina di Gairo and Tertenia, as well as the Tacchi of Jerzu and the Bingionniga forest. The Marina di Tertenia is one of the stops on the official coastal hiking route “A guardia dell’incantevole costa sud-orientale”.
For the Nuraghe Aleri, the car is left in the Foxi district; from there, a footpath leads to the nuraghe. Anyone wishing to include this site in their plans must therefore allow for the change from vehicle to footpath.
Traditions, churches and local produce
Tertenia’s traditions include a procession in traditional dress in honour of San Pietro Apostolo. The parish church of Tertenia is dedicated to the Beata Vergine Assunta. The church of Santa Teresa d’Avita dates from the 17th century.
